would you mind + doing 是禮貌提出請求的句型“你干某事好嗎？”。要特別注意它的回答：表示同意用certainly not或of course not. 表示不同意，用i’m sorry, but …如：--- would you mind lending your new bicycle to me? --- certainly not. 當然可以。--- would you mind waiting for some time? --- i’m afraid not, for i have something important to do right now. 恐怕不行，因為我有重要的時馬上要做。
2. if dr baker is in the hall, will he please make himself known to me? 如果貝克博士在這個大廳里，請他給我作個自我介紹，好嗎？
make oneself known自我介紹：here are my friends. would you make yourself known to them? 這兒都是我的朋友，你愿意向他們作自我介紹嗎？掌握其它幾個類似結構: make oneself understood使自己被理解; make oneself heard使自己被聽到; make oneself seen 使自己被看到。如: speak louder or you can't make yourself heard. 大聲點，否則別人聽不到你的聲音。the baby always make himself understood by the way of crying. 嬰兒總是通過哭來讓大人們了解他的需求。
1. can you ring up the bus company? 你能給汽車公司打個電話嗎？“給…打電話”有幾種說法: call sb. (up) on the telephone; telephone sb. /phone sb.; give sb. a phone call; ring sb. up; give sb. a ring
2. can i take a message? 要不要留個話？message 常和下列動詞搭配：take a message 帶口信；give a message 傳達口信；leave a message 留口信，如：would you like to give a message to him? 請你給他捎個口信，好嗎？
3. dr baker replied to the invitation, accepting it. 貝克博士答復了請帖，接受了邀請。reply ①不及物動詞：please reply to my question. 請回答我的問題。②及物動詞：he replied that he knew nothing about it. 他回答說這件事他一點也不知道。③名詞： he made no reply to this question. 對于這個問題他沒作回答。
4. he decided to attend the meeting though he was still a bit surprised. 他還是決定出席這個會議。attend 表示“參與、參加”, 和 join / take part in 的區別: join: 加入到某一組織、團體或人群中去，成為其中的一員：join the club 加入俱樂部; take part in: 指參加某一活動: take part in the discussion 參加討論; attend: 參加或出席會議、聚會、講座，上課: attend a meeting 參加會議; attend the concert 出席音樂會; attend the lecture聽講座。
5. he wondered why they had invited him. 他納悶的是，他們為什么邀請他。掌握動詞wonder 的兩個意思①自問ask oneself：i wonder who he is. 我不知道他是誰。常用來表示請求 i wonder if you could give me a hand? 請問你是否可以幫我一個忙。②驚奇：i wondered to hear her voice in the next room. 我聽到隔壁她的聲音，十分驚訝。we wonder at the fact that you weren’t killed. 你竟未遇難，令人驚奇。wonder也可作名詞: the wonders of modern medicine 現代醫學奇跡 no wonder you were late! 難怪你來晚了!
