3. point out  指出
would you mind if i point out the mistake to you now ? 你介不介意我現在給你指出個錯誤？注意point的其它搭配： point to 指： both the hour hand and the minute hand pointed to 12 then .那時，時針和分針都指向12點。point at 指著：she pointed at him and said, "he is the thief!" 她指著他說道:“他是小偷!” the soldier pointed his gun at the thief. 這士兵用槍指著小偷。
4. turn over   翻轉；把…倒過來
when the telephone rang, he just turned over and went to sleep again. 電話鈴響的時候，他只是翻了個身又睡著了。the oil lamp was turned over and a fire started. 油燈的打翻了，火著了起來。注意turn的其它搭配：turn on/off 表示開關電燈、收音機等。turn out 同樣是關掉、熄滅的意思，如：please turn out the gas when you finish cooking.做好飯后請把煤氣關掉。turn to 翻到/轉到：please turn to page 25. turn left / turn right 向左/向右轉
5. go against  違反、反對、不利于
the case may go against you. 這個案子可能會對你不利。she went against her mother's wishes. 她違背了她母親的意愿。
6. agree to do sth. 同意做某事
he agreed to let me go home early. 他同意讓我早回家。注意：不可說agree sb to do sth：錯the teacher agreed me to take part in the game. 應說：the teacher allowed me to take part in the game.
7. give a talk  做報告
she gave a talk on her visit to china. 她就訪華情況發表了講話。注意：have a talk 聽報告：we’ll have a talk this afternoon. 我們今天下午要聽報告。又：i had a long talk with the headmaster about this matter. 關于這件事我與校長談了很長時間。
8. now and then  有時；不時地
he looked at his notebook now and then when he gave the talk. 他作報告時不時地看他的筆記本。英語還有every now and then、a little now and a little then: his family was so poor that he could go to school only a little now and a little then. 他家里很窮，他只能是斷斷續續地上了幾年學。
9. year after year  年復一年
常表示每年重復。如：year after year we have had a christmas card from dick. 我們年年都收到迪克寄來的圣誕卡。year by year 的重點在于強調一年一年地、逐年的，常表示逐年的變化。the boy grows taller year by year. 這男孩長得一年比一年高(強調逐年在變)。類似的表達方法還有week after week一星期又一星期；time after time 一次又一次; bus after bus 一輛又一輛的公共汽車。

了解引導時間從句的三個引導詞 when, while, as 的區別: while 的含義是during the time that 表示時間段或過程，強調主句與從句的行為或狀態同時發生或存在，從句的謂語動詞必須是延續性的。如：while i was reading, the telephone rang. 我正看書時電話響了。when 的含義是at or during that time, 既可以用于指時間一點(從句謂語需用終止性動詞),也可用于指時間段(從句謂語需用延續性動詞)。如：when the firefighters arrived, we had already put out the big fire. 當救火隊員到來時，我們已經把大火撲滅了(前后兩個動作不同時發生)。when i woke up, mum was preparing breakfast. 當我醒來時，媽媽正在準備早餐。as 側重的是主句和從句中的行為同時發生，通常譯為“隨著...”或“一邊...一邊...”。如: as you grow, you know more and more. 隨著年齡的增長，你的知識越來越豐富。
