2. but we have never had women working in this part of our company before. 可是，我們以前從未讓婦女在公司這個部門工作過。
have + 名詞 + doing 表示“讓/使某人做某事”的意思。如：i had him waiting at the gate. 我讓他一直在門外等候。the teacher soon had us thinking. 區分：have sb. do sth. 是“使某人做某事” 和 have sth. done “請人做某事（自己不去做或無法親自做）”。如：i'll have him finish my work. 我將讓他替我把工作完成。i had my hair cut. 我頭發理了。
1. there are women police officers, women doctors, teachers, engineers, farmers and so on. 有女警官、女醫生、女教師、女工程師、女農場主等。當我們用man和woman構成的合成名詞，變成復數時，里面所含的成分全都要變為復數：man-servant → men-servants, woman doctor → women doctors 但：a girl student → many girl students
2. i'm sure there's nothing that a woman can't do. 沒有什么事情婦女干不了的。當先行詞是nothing、anything、little、all等不定代詞時，關系代詞一般用that，如：i said nothing that hurt her. 我沒有說過傷她心的話。all that should be done has been done. 所有該干的事都干了。
3. the secret is out! 秘密泄露了！副詞out作表語時，有“在外”“顯露”等含義：the moon will soon be out. 月亮快出來了。了解：the light is out (熄滅). soon our first game was out (結束). is the result out (發表)? short skirts are out (過時).
4. unless you tell me, i shall not be able to help you. 除非你告訴我，否則我就沒法幫助你了。unless是從屬連詞，引導表示條件的狀語從句。它本身有否定的意思，作“除非…,否則…”解，相當于“if…not…”，如：don't come in unless i call. 如果我不叫你，你就不要進來。unless we train harder, we may lose the game. 除非我們加緊訓練,否則我們會在比賽中失利。
5. i had to lie to the company and pretend to be a man in order to get a job. 為了得到一份工作，我不得不對公司撒謊，并裝扮成一個男人。lie (lied lied lying) “說謊”，對比lie (lay lain lying) “躺下”，如：he lied to his mother yesterday. 昨天他對媽媽撒謊了。he lay on the bed all day, reading. 昨天他躺在床上看了一整天的書。
6. pretend “假裝”、“裝扮”，后面跟名詞、不定式或that從句。he pretended illness. 他假裝生病。 he pretended that he had a bad cold. 他假裝患了重感冒。she pretended to know nothing about it. 她蓄意假裝對此事一概不知。 注意后面動詞不定式的多種形式：he pretended to be sleeping when his mother called him. 媽媽叫他的時候，他假裝在睡覺。he pretended to have had his lunch. 他假裝吃過午飯了。
7. so i cut my hair short…于是，我把頭發剪短… 這是復合賓語結構（賓語+賓語補足語），賓語補足語可用形容詞，表示動作對賓語所產生的結果，如：he pushed the door open. 他把門推開。they washed their hands clean. 他們把手洗得很干凈。 the hunter shot the wolf dead. 獵人把狼擊斃了。
