三、易混易錯詞語辨析
1、辨析 fat，plump 和 stout：
fat，plump 和 stout 表示“胖”的意思：
fat 指胖得難看，是貶義詞；plump 是褒義詞，意思是胖得豐滿、健康（用于嬰兒或者年輕女性）；stout
用于中年人發福，胖而粗壯。
2、辨析 gentle，soft 和 mild：
gentle 側重對人的體貼和安慰；soft 強調柔和，柔弱等，還可指天生說話聲音低或怕人聽見；mild 側重指神態安詳，不暴躁，不生氣。
3、辨析 illness，disease，sickness 和 disorder：
illness 疾病（泛指一切疾病）；disease 多指已查明的疾病； sickness 生病的狀態，還指惡心；以上三詞有時可互換。disorder 指失調，程度較輕的疾病。
4、辨析 possible 和 probable：
possible adj. ①可能的，做得到的 ②合理的（possible 指客觀上潛在的可能性，但常常有實際可能性很小的暗示；probable 指帶有幾份根據的推測，可能性比 possible 大；likely指表面看來頗有可能，與 probable 接近。）
5、辨析 promise 和 consent：
promise是自己主動約定的，有“許諾，允許”的意思。例如：he promised me a book. 他許諾給我一本書。consent 是指先由他人請求而后給予同意。例如：i consent to your plan. 我同意你的計劃。
