三、易混易錯詞語辨析
1. 辨析 alone 與 lonely：
alone 既可用作副詞，也可作形容詞，其意義為“單獨，獨自”。如：
he works (lives) alone. 他獨自一人工作（單獨居住）。
the house stands alone on the hill. 那房子獨立在山上。
i was alone in the house. 我一人在屋里。
he lives on tea and cake when he is alone. 他一個人時常就吃點餅干，喝點茶。
alone 做副詞用還有“只有；僅僅”的意思，相當(dāng)于。如：
you can't live on bread alone. 你不能只吃面包，這樣難以生活。
time alone will show who was right. 只有時間才會證明誰是對的。
lonely 雖然是副詞的形式，但只能做形容詞用。指人時。意為“單獨，獨自”；指地方時，為“無人居住的，荒唐的”。如：
with all this friends away from him, he feels lonely. 他遠(yuǎn)離朋友們，感到很感傷。
was there someone else on this lonely island? 這荒涼的島上還有其他的人嗎？
he lives alone but he doesn't feel lonely. 他獨自一人生活，電腦他并不感到孤獨。
2. 辨析 miserable, dismal, sorry, unhappy 與 wrethed:
意義都含“極不幸的”、“憂郁的”、“難過的”、“悲慘“。miserable指由于貧困、屈辱、憤怒或不幸等而引起內(nèi)心極端痛苦的”，如：
the miserable life of the poor in the past. 過去窮人的悲慘生活。
dismal指“憂郁的”、“憂愁的”、“不愉快的”，如：
he felt dismal after reading piece of bad news in the newspaper. 他讀了報上的一條不好的消息后心情憂郁。
