1. at the end of, by the end of, in the end
這幾個短語都可以用來表示時間，但其起止時間的
界限有所不同。
at the end of 意為“在……末”，指年、月、日、世紀等
時間點。
by the end of 意為“不遲于”，強調最后時限，其中by
相當于not later than。
in the end意為“最終；最后”。
there is going to be a sports meeting at the end of this
month.
這個月底要召開運動會。
we will have learned 3000 words by the end of this
month.
到這個月底我們就學了3000個單詞。
in the end things will mend.
車到山前必有路。
2. work on，work at
work at 意為“學習；研究；寫作；致力于”
work on 表示“從事(某項工作)”，可以譯為“造；創
作；畫”等
work on sth. 與work at sth. 的主要區別在于前者所
說的 something 是 work 的具體對象，而后者提到的
something只說明所從事工作的性質，而不在于說明
正在做什么。
-- what are you doing?
-- we are working on some woodcuts.
“你們在干什么?”
“我們在創作一些木板畫。”
they worked on the old car late into the night.
他們修這輛舊汽車一直修到深夜。
she has always worked hard at collective jobs.
集體的活她一向于得很賣力。
work on 還有“繼續工作；努力影響或努力說服”之
意。
they'il work on tiil midnight.
他們將繼續工作到午夜。
we will work on those who have cheated in exam and
help them do right.
我們要對考試舞弊的人做工作，幫助他們改正。
can you work(m him to make him change his mind?
你能努力說服他改變主意嗎?
3. cure，treat
cure 還可以用作動詞，它與treat一詞的區別是：treat
意為“醫治；治療”，強調治療的動作或醫治的過程，
不涉及治療的結果。
the dentist is treating my teeth.
牙醫正在治療我的牙齒。
which doctor is treating you for this trouble?
哪位醫生在為你治病?
some skin diseases are difficult to treat.
有些皮膚病很難醫治。
treatment 表示“治療；療法；療程”。
be under treatment 在治療中
a new treatment for cancer 癌癥新療法
treatment 專指開藥方、飲食及鍛煉等，或只是對起居
習慣方面提出建議，不過所有這些努力都是為了使
病人恢復健康。cure 意為“治愈；痊愈”，特別指病后
的恢復健康。
penicillin cured him of pneumonia.
盤尼西林治好了他的肺炎。
the new treatment cured his skin disease.
